Nearly Rs. 100 crores infusion for the redevelopment work!

If things go as planned, Mysuru exhibition grounds at Doddakere maidan will see a major redevelopment work under the center’s Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme. The steering committee of the Department of Tourism, Karnataka government has cleared this project, and the center has given its  approval for funding it.

As per Mysuru/ Kodagu constituency MP Shri. Pratap Simha, the project will be taken up for redevelopment with an investment of around Rs. 100 Crores.

The Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme gets its prominence when we know the context in which it is being introduced and the purpose behind its introduction.

Brief introduction

India, a continuing civilization with over millennia-old “culture and tradition” has a lot to offer to mankind. A birthplace of engineering, science, math, art & craft, music, dance, spirituality, and philosophy, India can take a center stage in shaping the world order. However, for that to happen, India’s hidden jewels – tradition, culture, art, and other things, should be made available to the world.

To do that, the central government has come out with the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme, to be launched in 15 states targeting two OR three destinations in each state, to be showcased to the world.

This initiative will support the local artists economically and with that, the tourism sector will get a hard push up, thus boosting the local economy. Let’s briefly understand the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme.

Swadesh Darshan 2.0

The Ministry of Tourism launched the Swadesh Darshan Scheme in 2015 and sanctioned 76 projects under the Scheme to date. With the mantra of ‘vocal for local’, the revamped scheme namely Swadesh Darshan 2.0 seeks to attain “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” by realizing India’s full potential as a tourism destination.

Swadesh Darshan 2.0 is not an incremental change but a generational shift to evolve Swadesh Darshan Scheme as a holistic mission to develop sustainable and responsible tourism destinations covering tourism and allied infrastructure, tourism services, human capital development, destination management, and promotion backed by policy and institutional reforms.

Objectives of Swadesh Darshan 2.0

The strategic objectives of the Scheme are:

  • To enhance the contribution of tourism to the local economies
  • To create jobs including self-employment for local communities
  • To enhance the skills of local youth in tourism and hospitality
  • To increase private sector investment in tourism and hospitality
  • To preserve and enhance the local cultural and natural resources

100% Centrally Funded

The Scheme is 100% centrally funded. The funds shall be sanctioned and released to the Implementing Agency as per the guidelines of the Scheme and in conformity with the General Financial Rules and the directions issued by the Ministry of Finance from time to time.

Induction shielding for the missing electrification link on the Mysuru Chamarajanagar railway line!

0

An approximate 500 Metres stretch on the railway line connecting Mysuru & Nanjangud town runs along the Mysore airport boundary wall. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) which operates the Mandakalli airport has raised concerns over the interference of Indian railways overhead electric line & movement of trains with the aircraft radar & ILS signals, thus endangering the safe operations of aircraft. Due to safety concerns unaddressed, the AAI is yet to accord approval for the said missing length to Indian Railways to set up the overhead electric traction system on the Mysuru-Chamarajanagar main line.

As a way forward, MP Shri.Pratap Simha during the recent Mysuru Divisional Gati Shakti meeting suggested adopting the Induction Shielding concept which was implemented by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) along their elevated reaches running in proximity to the Chennai airport boundary.

induction shield
In the above pic, one can see the steel roof installed by CMRL on their elevated metro lines near Alandur.

Back then AAI which operates Chennai Airport had raised similar objections in Chennai but was resolved by installing steel roof over the metro rail overhead cables to mitigate the signal interferences.

Mysuru Divisional Railway Manager assured MP Shri Pratap Simha that railways will study the technical aspects of the induction shielding concept adopted by CMRL to arrive at a similar solution for the affected stretch on MYS-CMNR line

Rs 100 crores to boost Mysore Airport expansion

Mysore Airport expansion – News in detail

At last, it looks like Mysuru doesn’t have to wait any longer to get air connectivity to far-flung Metros and commercial centers of India. The dream of having a full-fledged expanded airport is seen to be realized with the state government now releasing Rs. 100 Crores for land acquisition.

The required land for airport expansion is 240 acres

Technicalities

The airport expansion involves extending the runway from 1,740 m to 2,400 m to facilitate the operation of bigger Boeing and Airbus planes from the city. At present, only ATR planes with short-distance ranges operate to and from Mysuru. Stakeholders supportive of the project have opinioned that operating long-haul flights to connect to all major cities across India, is a must for the industrial growth of Mysuru. The city should also be on the International air network to fully exploit its business and tourism potential.

Expanded Airport is a boon to the Mysuru Semicon fab

The airport project will be the icing on the cake for the country’s first semiconductor plant, which would be established in Mysuru soon. Israeli firm ISMC Analog Fab Pvt. Ltd. is slated to invest nearly ₹22,900 crores in Mysuru to establish a state-of-the-art semiconductor plant, which is in sync with the long-term plans of promoting knowledge-based industries in Mysuru.

The Semicon will unleash the creation of lots of electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) ancillary units in the region, which will propel job creation for the young and restless youngsters of Mysuru, who are raring to go.

Overall, the expanded airport and Semicon fab will boost the local economy like never before.

Chamarajeshwara temple

Chamarajeshwara temple in ChamarajaNagara is an ode to the love, care, and respect of a son towards his father. The late Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar (MKW), the Maharaja of the Mysuru kingdom, got Chamarajeshwara Swamy Temple built in 1826 in memory of his father Chamaraja Wadiyar, who was born in Arikutara town in 1774. The town was renamed Chamarajanagar in the early 19th century.

Garba gudi

The Shivalinga present in the garbha gudi (sanctum sanctorum) of the temple was brought from Sringeri. The then pontiff of Sringeri Mutt presented it to MKW and the temple was named Chamarajeshwara. MKW got an idol of Goddess Kempananjamba installed on the left side of the Chamarajeshwara Linga, in memory of his mother.

Magnificent architecture

The temple architecture is breathtakingly beautiful. It has a 70-foot high five-tier raja gopuram with five glittering brass kalashas at the top. The temple has stone carvings of many gods and goddesses. At the entrance to the temple, there is Lord Ganesha on the left and Goddess Chamundeshwari on the right.

The temple has two mantapas — Mukha-mantapa (open pillared hall) and Nandi mantapa. The mandapas and Garbhagudi (sanctum sanctorum) have elaborate carvings of motifs of gods which ignites spiritual thoughts.

The kings took care of the temple well

The temple was wealthy and well-funded during the rule of the Wadiyars. MMK who often visited the temple along with his wives presented exquisite ornaments and Jewellery to Lord Shiva. He also donated the revenue collected from 13 villages to the temple to meet the administrative expenses.

Iconic Ratha (Chariot)

The 180 years old chariot has been beautifully handcrafted and that explains how the kings gave importance to art and architecture.  Every year the famous rathotsava (car festival) is celebrated during Ashada month, which usually falls in July. There is a belief that during the rathotsava if any newly-wed couple throws a pair of bananas at the chariot,  it would bring them fortune and blessings.

The first chariot festival was held on the occasion of Ashada Purnima in 1836. Since then the chariot festival has not been stopped even once till 2017.  In February 2017 when one of the wheels was partially burnt by a miscreant, the chariot procession was stopped as it is considered inauspicious to use burnt materials for religious purposes. However, since 2017 the deity is being taken in procession through manual means – on the shoulders of devotees during car festival.

However, this has not deterred the devotees who continue to throng the temple seeking divine intervention during Rathotsava.
