Railways to construct a new Railway line between Marikuppam and Dravidian University

Railways to undertake Construction of an Electrified New BG Line Track between Marikuppam (Incl.) and Dravidian University(5.72 Km) including Telecommunication, Electrification & Electrical works through Engineering, Procurement, and Construction mode. (EPC)

Marikuppam and Dravidian University railway line is a part of the Marikuppam – Kuppam new railway line proposed way back in 2012-13 with an estimated revised cost of Rs.279.54cr for a length of 23.70 Km.

The proposed alignment connects the existing station at Marikuppam on the Bangarpete-Marikuppam branch line and Kuppam on the Bengaluru-Chennai main line. The new line will serve the districts of Kolar in Karnataka and Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.

Estimated Project Cost: INR 131.542 Crore

Construction Period: 15 months

  1. That’s true. 50KMS will be reduced. But there is lot of elevation problem between gudiyatham – coromandel (kgf). Gudiyatham is at the height of 890ft.and kgf is at 3000ft approx mean sea level. There will be lot of tunnel construction work between pernambut to vkota because of ghat section. Again speed will be reduced which doesn’t make sense of shorter distance. Already existing jolarpettai – kuppam line is having gradual height difference. Another main point is, vkota – pernambut region located on koudinya elephant corridor forest area. It will affect elephant population. Its waste of time and govt’s money. Better to increase speed between krpuram – kuppam to 130kmph by upgrading tracks and signalling.
