New Delhi, September 30, 2024: Tata Power, one of India’s largest integrated power companies, has announced the signing of a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Rajasthan. The announcement was made during the ongoing Rising Rajasthan Investor Meet in New Delhi. With a staggering investment plan of approximately ₹1.2 lakh crores, the ambitious 10-year agreement aims to transform Rajasthan into a power surplus state by ensuring 24/7 clean, affordable, and reliable electricity. This extensive investment covers renewable energy projects, transmission and distribution (T&D) reforms, solar manufacturing, and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, making Rajasthan a key player in India’s clean energy transition.
The MoU was signed in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, and Col Rajyavardhan Rathore, the Hon’ble Minister for Industry & Commerce of Rajasthan, along with senior government officials. The agreement signifies the state’s dedication to enhancing industrial growth and energy sustainability, positioning Rajasthan as a major hub for renewable energy in India.

Comprehensive Investment Plan
The MoU outlines several key initiatives aimed at providing reliable and sustainable energy solutions throughout Rajasthan:
- Renewable Energy Projects: Nearly ₹75,000 crore will be dedicated to developing 10,000 MW of renewable energy capacity, which includes 6,000 MW of solar and 4,000 MW of hybrid energy projects spread across Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Jodhpur.
- Solar Module Manufacturing Facility: An investment of ₹2,000 crore will be made in a state-of-the-art 2,000 MW solar module manufacturing facility in Jodhpur, strengthening India’s domestic manufacturing capabilities and supporting the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
- Transmission and Distribution (T&D): To modernize the state’s power grid, approximately ₹20,000 crore will be invested in distribution infrastructure, and ₹10,000 crore will go towards developing a robust transmission system. These investments will reduce energy losses, improve power quality, and support the expansion of renewable energy projects across the state.
- Nuclear Power Plant: Tata Power will explore opportunities to develop a nuclear power plant in the state, further diversifying Rajasthan’s energy portfolio.
- EV Charging Infrastructure: A proposed investment of ₹1,000 crore will be used to establish 1 lakh EV charging points across Rajasthan, making the state a frontrunner in the adoption of electric mobility.
- Rooftop Solar Projects: Tata Power plans to install rooftop solar power systems for 10 lakh households, contributing to the PM Surya Ghar Yojana and supporting local communities in accessing affordable renewable energy.
Impact on Rajasthan’s Economy and Employment
This MoU is set to have a transformative impact on the socio-economic landscape of Rajasthan, generating over 28,000 direct jobs in the state. Tata Power’s comprehensive investment plan will support the growth of local industries in sectors such as solar manufacturing, infrastructure development, and renewable energy innovations. The integration of large-scale renewable projects will also reduce energy costs for industries and consumers, making Rajasthan a prime destination for green investments and sustainable industrial development.
Supporting India’s Clean Energy Goals
The MoU is poised to make Rajasthan a leading renewable energy hub in India, contributing to the nation’s target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070. By tapping into the state’s abundant solar and wind resources, Tata Power aims to help India establish itself as a global leader in clean energy.
Tata Power’s Ongoing Projects in Rajasthan
Tata Power has already established a significant footprint in Rajasthan with a robust portfolio of energy projects. The company has successfully commissioned 1 GW of solar projects, 185 MW of wind projects, and 130 MW of rooftop solar installations across the state.
The company’s Ajmer Distribution operations currently serve over 1 lakh customers with reliable and efficient electricity supply. Tata Power also manages the 340 km Bikaner-Neemrana Transmission Project, which evacuates 7.7 GW of renewable power from Rajasthan.
Tata Power’s presence in Rajasthan includes several notable projects, such as a 225 MW hybrid project in Noorsar for Tata Power Mumbai Distribution, a 1 GW solar EPC project in Bikaner for SJVN, a 300 MW solar project in Nokhra for NTPC, a 150 MW solar EPC project in Pokhran for MSEDCL, and a 200 MW solar project in Bikaner for Tata Power Trading Company.
The signing of this MoU reinforces Tata Power’s commitment to Rajasthan’s growth and development, ensuring that the state remains at the forefront of India’s renewable energy revolution.
