Revolutionising Research in the Eastern Region
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the PARAM Rudra Supercomputer at the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences (SNBNCBS) in Kolkata.
This high-performance computing facility is set to benefit 10-12 institutions and thousands of researchers in Eastern India.
A Major Leap for Indian Science and Technology
The PARAM Rudra Supercomputer was developed under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM). It is part of a broader initiative by the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY). It is also part of the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
Similar installations in Pune and Delhi are pushing forward advancements in fields like advanced materials, high-energy physics, and earth sciences.
Collaboration and Faster Research
This new supercomputer will enable collaboration between institutes. These include Bose Institute, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Kolkata. Researchers will be able to perform complex calculations much faster, reducing the time required to solve intricate scientific problems.
Advances in Various Fields
The PARAM Rudra Supercomputer will impact many scientific areas:
- Materials Science: Accelerates the discovery of new materials.
- Earth Science: Aids in computational modeling of Earth and planetary materials.
- Biological Sciences: Uses machine learning to study diseases and develop treatments.
- Astrophysics: Helps understand high-energy physics and the universe’s structure.
Impact Beyond Research
The benefits of PARAM Rudra extend beyond science. It will improve disaster management, economic growth, and the ease of doing business.
This plays a crucial role in India’s development in Industry 4.0. Additionally, it will improve India’s ability to predict weather and climate-related phenomena.
India’s Path to Self-Reliance in High-Performance Computing
PARAM Rudra represents India’s commitment to self-reliance in computing technology. The investment in such advanced technologies ensures that the country’s scientists have the tools needed to drive global innovation.
