In a groundbreaking move, Tata Motors, India’s leading automotive manufacturer, has introduced the country’s first Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) cars. This industry-first development aims to enhance consumer experience by combining the benefits of CNG fuel efficiency with the convenience of automatic transmission.
Booking Details and Variants
Customers can now book their preferred Tiago or Tigor iCNG AMT variant by visiting the nearest Tata Motors authorized dealership or online, with a booking amount of INR 21,000. The Tiago iCNG AMT will be available in three variants – XTA CNG, XZA+ CNG & XZA NRG, while the Tigor iCNG AMT will offer two variants – XZA CNG & XZA+ CNG.

Safety is paramount in the Tiago and Tigor iCNG AMT models. Features include a micro switch to keep the car switched off during refueling, thermal incident protection, safe location of CNG cylinders, and advanced materials in the iCNG kit to prevent leakage. The leak detection feature ensures a swift switch from CNG to petrol mode in case of a gas leak.

CNG Industry Growth and Tata Motors’ Position
The CNG industry has experienced substantial growth of 40.5% in FY24, compared to FY23, as reported by Vahan. Tata Motors, currently holding a prominent position in the CNG space, offers a wide portfolio including Tiago, Tigor, Altroz, and Punch, reflecting a growth of 67.9% in CNG sales in FY24 compared to the previous year. This move further strengthens Tata Motors’ commitment to innovation and meeting evolving consumer needs in the automotive industry.
