Foundation Stone for New Terminal Building at Rajahmundry Airport to be Laid on 10th December

Rajahmundry Airport (IATA: RJA, ICAO: VORY) is located at Madhurapudi, 18 kilometres (11 mi) north of Rajahmundry in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. 

Rajahmundry, the ‘Cultural Capital of Andhra Pradesh,’ is gearing up for a significant milestone in its aviation history. A new Terminal Building, aimed at enhancing air travel facilities and modernizing amenities, will have its foundation stone laid on 10th December, 2023. With the expansion Rajahmundry airport will soar to new heights.

Dignitaries to Inaugurate the Project

The prestigious event will witness the presence of Union Minister of Civil Aviation & Steel, Shri Jyotiraditya M Scindia, and Shri YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Gen. (Dr.) V. K. Singh (Retd), Minister of State for Civil Aviation; Road Transport and Highways, along with other dignitaries, will also grace the occasion.

Rajahmundry Airport Set to Soar to New Heights

Recognizing Rajahmundry’s cultural significance and potential for air travel, the expansion of the Terminal Building is crucial. The existing facility faces saturation, prompting the expansion to cover an additional area of 17,029 sqm at a cost of Rs.350 Crore. Post-expansion, the Terminal Building will cover 21,094 sqm, capable of serving 2100 passengers during peak hours and 30 lakh passengers annually.

Modernizing Infrastructure for Passenger Comfort

The upgraded Rajahmundry airport will have 28 check-in counters, four conveyor belts in arrivals, eight X-Bis machines, three aerobridges, and ample F&B and Retail outlets. Moreover, facilities catering to Divyangjans will be incorporated, aligning with Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan norms. The city side area will also see improvements, providing parking for approximately 600 cars.
