Reliance Industries’ next big plan after telecom and retail is green energy. The compressed biogas (CBG) fits perfectly in the company’s new initiative and is in the process of setting up 100 CBG plants across India.

However, the raw material that gets into CBG plants is sugarcane press mud (SPM). The leadership of Reliance Industries is talking to various sugar mill owners to source the product.

“RIL is actively engaging with prominent sugar mills to secure a steady supply of press mud for its CBG plants. The company has initiated discussions with large sugar mills known for their capacity to provide substantial daily volumes of press mud across various locations nationwide, as disclosed by an executive involved in the negotiations. In a September announcement, RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani outlined ambitious plans to establish 100 CBG plants within the next five years. The upcoming CBG facilities will leverage 5.5 million tonnes of agricultural residue and organic waste.

RIL will use Indigenous technology to turn SPM into compressed biogas.

During the 7th Edition of the Bengal Global Business Summit in Kolkata on November 21, Ambani shared that the conglomerate has achieved the status of India’s largest bio-energy producer. This achievement is attributed to the utilization of the company’s domestically developed technology. The usage of indigenous technology has prevented the money from going out of India as royalty to the foreign patent owner.
