Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM), renowned for its groundbreaking initiatives in India’s electric vehicle sector, has announced a strategic collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL). The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two entities aims to facilitate the establishment of public charging stations countrywide.
Utilizing Resources for Enhanced Infrastructure
This partnership capitalizes on HPCL’s extensive network of fuel stations and TPEM’s wealth of experience garnered from over 1.2 lakh Tata electric vehicles (EVs) currently traversing Indian roads. The focus lies on deploying chargers at locations frequently visited by Tata EV owners. Moreover, HPCL will collect data on charger usage to refine the customer experience.

Encouraging EV Adoption Nationwide
The agreement between TPEM and HPCL seeks to enhance the EV ownership experience across India, thereby fostering a conducive environment for greater EV adoption. Efforts are underway to explore synergies that will incentivize more individuals to embrace electric vehicles. Additionally, the introduction of a co-branded RFID card aims to streamline the payment process for charging, ensuring a hassle-free experience for users.
Leaders in Their Respective Fields
TPEM holds a dominant position in India’s EV market, commanding a remarkable 68% share in electric passenger vehicles. On the other hand, HPCL boasts a vast network comprising over 21,500 fuel stations nationwide and is committed to promoting sustainability. HPCL has set ambitious targets, aiming to install 5,000 electric vehicle charging stations by December 2024.

Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., emphasized the critical role of dependable charging infrastructure in mainstreaming EVs in India. He underscored the partnership’s significance in advancing the EV ecosystem by leveraging TPEM’s insights and HPCL’s expansive network.
Debashis Chakraverty, Chief General Manager of Retail Strategy & BD at HPCL, highlighted the alliance’s potential to expand EV charging infrastructure in high-demand areas, thereby alleviating range anxiety among EV users.
