Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd., a major player in India’s metal industry, has begun operations at a new, cutting-edge Coke Oven Plant in Jamuria, West Bengal. This move supports the company’s goal to expand and promote sustainability.
Key Features of the Plant
The new facility consists of two batteries, each with 35 ovens. It will use coal imported from countries like Australia, Indonesia, and Russia to produce high-quality coke. This coke will be used in Shyam Metalics’ blast furnace, sinter plant, and ferroalloy facilities. This setup is expected to boost production efficiency and reduce costs.
Eco-Friendly Design
One of the standout features of this plant is its environmental focus. The plant has a non-recovery coke oven design, ensuring zero emissions. In addition, it has a waste heat recovery boiler (WHRB), which captures and uses heat from the coke-making process to generate electricity. This reduces environmental impact and increases efficiency.
Leadership Comments
Brij Bhushan Agarwal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Shyam Metalics, highlighted the significance of the new plant. He said, “This plant reflects our commitment to environmental responsibility and boosts our manufacturing capacity. Our use of zero-emission technology and waste heat recovery systems sets new standards for safety and efficiency.”
Future Plans
Shyam Metalics also plans to commission a new blast furnace later this year. The Jamuria facility will play a key role in the company’s integrated steel and metal production, supporting its continued growth in the industry.
