Surda Mine Reopens, Bringing Jobs and Growth to Jharkhand

Union Minister Inaugurates Mining Operations to Boost Copper Production and Local Economy

The Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines is Shri Satish Chandra Dubey. He officially reopened the Surda Mine in Jharkhand today. The event marks a significant step towards making India self-reliant in copper production. The mine’s operation will create jobs. It will strengthen the local economy. The operation is expected to generate around ₹100 crore in revenue each year.

Local officials attended the inauguration. They included Jharkhand’s Minister of Water Resources, Shri Ramdas Soren. Jamshedpur MP Shri Bidyut Varan Mahato also participated. Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) plans to increase the mine’s production capacity from 0.4 million tonnes per year (mtpa) to 0.9 mtpa in the next seven years. This move will bring direct employment to about 1,100 people and indirect employment to 5,000 others in nearby areas.

The reopening of Kendadih and Rakha mines later this year is expected to generate 2,000 direct jobs. It will create 10,000 indirect jobs, further boosting Jharkhand’s economy.
