In a move to boost the efficiency of the Electronic Toll Collection system and facilitate smooth traffic flow at Toll Plazas, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative.
This initiative aims to discourage users from employing a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or associating multiple FASTags with a specific vehicle.

Deactivation of FASTags with Incomplete KYC
NHAI is urging FASTag users to complete the ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) process for their latest FASTag, aligning with RBI guidelines. FASTags with a valid balance but incomplete KYC will face deactivation or blacklisting by banks after January 31, 2024.
User Responsibilities
To prevent inconvenience, users are advised to ensure the completion of KYC for their latest FASTag. Additionally, users must adhere to the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ policy, discarding any previously issued FASTags through their respective banks. After January 31, 2024, only the latest FASTag account will remain active, with previous tags being deactivated or blacklisted.

For any assistance or queries, FASTag users can contact the nearest toll plazas or the toll-free customer care number provided by their respective issuer banks.
NHAI’s Initiative and Background
This initiative by NHAI follows recent reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a single vehicle and the issuance of FASTags without proper KYC, violating RBI mandates. Instances of FASTags not being affixed to vehicle windscreens deliberately have also been observed, causing unnecessary delays at toll plazas and inconveniencing fellow National Highway users.
