In a significant announcement, the Indian Railways has approved the introduction of 50 additional Amrit Bharat Express services throughout the country.
Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed this information in his X account on Monday. The move comes in response to the positive reception received by the initial two trains inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 30.

Key Features of Amrit Bharat Trains
Advancements in ‘Make in India’ Rail Innovation
The Amrit Bharat Express trains, a symbol of innovation under the ‘Make in India’ initiative by Indian Railways, are designed to provide superfast express services for intercity travel. Notable features of these trains include:
- Semi-Coupler Technology: Offering passengers a smooth and jerk-free journey experience at a maximum speed of 130 km/h.
- Push-Pull Approach: A unique operational strategy blending speed, efficiency, comfort, and affordability.
- Enhanced Acceleration and Deceleration: Ensuring time-saving maneuvers at bridges, curves, and other speed-restricted zones.
- Additional Amenities: Such as horizontal sliding windows, wider gangways sealed against dust, aerosol-based fire suppression systems in toilets and electrical cubicles, emergency disaster management lighting, and floor guide fluorescent strips.
- Sealed Gangways: Facilitating safe transitions between coaches while reducing noise and vibrations.

LHB Coaches with Dual Locomotives
Ensuring Safety and Comfort
The Amrit Bharat Express is equipped with Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches renowned for their safety and comfort features. These coaches boast a sleek aerodynamic design. The trains are powered by two Wap-5 locomotives utilizing the push-pull method, ensuring seamless and efficient movement without the need for engine reversals.
Composition and Capacity
Tailored to Passenger Needs
With a total of 22 coaches, including General and Sleeper class compartments, the Amrit Bharat Express is poised to accommodate approximately 1,800 passengers. This diverse configuration enables travelers to select the level of comfort that best suits their preferences and travel requirements.
