India marks a historic moment as BEML Ltd’s Bangalore complex has kick-started the production of the country’s first Vande Bharat sleeper trainset prototype.
Cutting-Edge Features
The Vande Bharat sleeper trainset promises top-notch features, including lightweight and corrosion-resistant GFRP panels for interiors, aerodynamic exterior design, crash-worthy features, a modular pantry, and modern amenities. The train, commissioned by Indian Railways, will accommodate 823 passengers in configurations ranging from first class AC to 3 Tier AC.
Shri Naveen Gulati Member (Traction & Rolling Stock) Railway Board during the inauguration of the facility expressed pride in the collaboration between BEML and Indian Railways, stating that the initiative aligns with the “Make in India” vision and meets global standards for passenger-focused trains.
Safety and Innovation
Safety remains a paramount focus, with the trainset meeting European rolling stock standards (HL3). Specially designed fire barrier doors and crash-worthy couplers ensure passenger safety. Shri Shantanu Roy CMD at BEML Ltd, emphasized the project’s dedication to safety, speed, and a special travel experience.
Engineering Excellence
BEML’s team concentrated not only on interiors but also on the propulsion system, bogie system, brake systems, HVAC, and exterior plug doors. Salient features include fire safety compliance, special provisions for differently-abled passengers, automatic exterior passenger doors, and a sensor-based intercommunication system.
