Inauguration by Hon’ble Prime Minister
On 17th December 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually flagged off the inaugural special service of ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam Express’ from Kanniyakumari to Varanasi, symbolizing a significant cultural link between Tamil Nadu and the sacred city of Kashi.
Grand Inauguration Event in Varanasi
Simultaneously, at Varanasi, PM Modi inaugurated the second phase of the ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam‘ event, extending from 17th to 31st December 2023. The event marked the launch of the new weekly service, which is a tribute to the grand cultural celebration in Varanasi.

The event witnessed the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and Union Minister Dr. L. Murugan. A ceremonial function at Kanniyakumari, attended by Hon’ble MLA N. Thalavai Sundaram, added grandeur to the occasion.

At 17 enroute stations in Tamil Nadu, ceremonial functions welcomed the inaugural special, with elected representatives, government officials, railway passengers, students, and the public participating enthusiastically.

The ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam Express’ offers historic and cultural significance:
- Historic Connection: Establishing the first regular train service from Kanniyakumari to Kashi, the route creates a historic rail link between two culturally rich regions.

Regular Service Details
The regular service of ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam Express’ with Train No. 16367/16368 will commence from Kanniyakumari on 28th December 2023 (Thursday) and from Banaras on 24th December 2023 (Sunday). This new weekly service is poised to connect the diverse cultures and religious sites along its route, fostering unity and convenience for travelers.
