India launches its fastest Solar-Electric boat: Saurshakti

Alappuzha, Kerala: Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) and NavAlt Solar Electric Boat Pvt. Ltd. marked a historic moment for India with the launch of SaurShakti, the nation’s fastest solar-electric boat. This groundbreaking vessel represents a paradigm shift in eco-friendly maritime transportation, combining MDL’s shipbuilding expertise with NavAlt’s proficiency in solar-electric technology.

Key Features of Saurshakti

Collaborative Innovation: SaurShakti is the result of a collaboration between MDL and NavAlt, showcasing a commitment to sustainable maritime technology.

Eco-Friendly Design: The vessel operates entirely on clean and efficient energy. With twin 50 kW electric motors, a marine-grade Lithium-ion Phosphate (LFP) battery, and 6 kW solar power, it achieves a top speed of 12 knots.

Long Range and Solar Supplementation: SaurShakti can operate for up to 7 hours on a single charge, further supplemented by solar power. This ensures extended journeys with minimal environmental impact.

Passenger Comfort: Designed for workboat purposes, the vessel is certified under IRS and comfortably accommodates 12 passengers. The electric operation eliminates gas emissions, noise, and vibrations, offering a serene and eco-conscious journey.

The official launch took place on December 13, 2023, at Navgathi Panavally Yard, Alappuzha, Kerala. The ceremony was attended by Chief Guest Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, General Manager, and Shri Hemant Kumar Rathod of MDL. Smt. Devi Nair, Additional General Manager at MDL, carried out the official launching.The collaborative effort between MDL and NavAlt marks a historic moment in India’s maritime progress, showcasing a cleaner and greener future on the seas.
