Extending Capacity for Longer Trains at CSMT Railway Station
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) is set to undergo a significant transformation with the extension of platform numbers 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14.
This expansion aims to accommodate trains with a length of 24 coaches, enhancing the station’s capability and efficiency.

Scope of Works
- Platform Extension: Platform Nos. 10 and 11 will see an extension by 382 meters, increasing the existing length from 298 meters to a proposed 680 meters. Similarly, platform numbers 12, 13, and 14 will undergo a 305-meter extension, going from an existing 385 meters to a new length of 690 meters.
- Infrastructure Relocation: The project includes the removal and relocation of 61 old Overhead Equipment (OHE) masts and portals, as well as 71 old signaling and telecommunication obstructions, such as signal posts and junction boxes.
- Track Adjustments: Dismantling of 9 old obstructions, including dry pit lines and washing pit lines, will take place. Additionally, 25 turnouts and a 3-track diamond arrangement will be dismantled, with 14 new track turnouts inserted. Approximately 2 kilometers of plain track will be dismantled and linked.

Completed Works
- Carnac Bunder ROB: The dismantling of the Carnac Bunder Road Over Bridge (ROB) has been successfully completed.
- Infrastructure Construction: Several key constructions have been accomplished, including the Route Relay Interlocking (RRI) building (G+3), Substation building (25×5.5m), and Object Controller Rooms at CSMT and Masjid.
- Track Connection: Laying and linking of track to a length of 2 kilometers, connecting to existing lines, has been successfully completed.
The completion of this project is expected to significantly improve the mobility of trains in the CSMT-Dadar area. With the extension of platforms and the removal of obstructions, CSMT is gearing up for a more efficient services.
