Bengaluru, January 18, 2024: In a remarkable achievement, Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR Airport) has been named the ‘Best Airport of the Year’ at the prestigious Wings India Awards 2024.

The award ceremony, held in Hyderabad on January 18, also acknowledged the airport with the ‘>25 MPPA Traffic Award’ under the Airports category.

Operational Excellence and Passenger Experience

This recognition is a testament to BLR Airport’s unwavering commitment to operational excellence, providing a seamless passenger experience, prioritizing environmental stewardship, and embracing cutting-edge technology. Over the past year, BLR Airport has significantly expanded its passenger capacity.

To enhance passenger flow and reduce stress, the airport increased entry gates, check-in counters, and informative display boards. International operations have now shifted from Terminal 1 (T1) to the new Terminal 2 (T2), boasting an expansive 255,661 square meters and equipped to handle 25 million passengers annually. The expansion also includes enlarged immigration and emigration counters, reducing wait times and improving the overall travel experience.

BLR Airport has demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental responsibility, achieving Level 4+ Transition status under the globally recognized Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program.

The airport actively implements initiatives such as achieving net energy-neutral status, banning single-use plastics at F&B outlets, and engaging in extensive landscaping and afforestation drives. Additionally, the airport is water-positive, regenerating more water than it consumes, and relies on 100% renewable energy throughout its campus.

T2’s Green Commitment: Sustainable Design

Terminal 2 (T2) at BLR Airport stands as a beacon of sustainable design, certified with a Platinum LEED rating by USGBC and the IGBC Green New Building Platinum certification. As the largest terminal in the world to achieve these distinctions, T2 seamlessly blends modern technology with India’s rich culture and heritage. The terminal features over 60 artworks depicting the ‘Naurasas’ or nine emotions, providing passengers with a unique experience as they walk through the ‘Terminal in a Garden’ surrounded by greenery.

Innovation and Technology for Seamless Travel

Innovation and technology are paramount at BLR Airport, ensuring a smooth and efficient passenger experience. Cutting-edge solutions such as Digi Yatra facial recognition for contactless boarding, the BLR Pulse app offering real-time updates, and self-baggage drop systems for faster check-in prioritize passenger convenience. The Automated Tray Retrieval System (ATRS) streamlines baggage screening, contributing to enhanced overall efficiency. In October 2023, BLR Airport secured the top position as the world’s most punctual airport for three consecutive months, highlighting its dedication to operational excellence and on-time departures.
