Global mobility leader to supply traction components and maintenance services, supporting India’s Make-in-India vision.
Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has been awarded a €144 million (approx. INR 1285 cr) contract to supply traction components and maintenance services for 17 Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets. The contract, aligned with India’s Make-in-India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, includes the supply of Mitrac traction components and electrical equipment to Indian Railways’ Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai.
The components will be engineered and manufactured at Alstom’s Indian sites, including Bengaluru, Savli, Coimbatore, and Maneja, with maintenance services to be executed at railway depots across the country. The 24-car sleeper trainsets, designed to run at a maximum speed of 180 km/h, will feature Alstom’s world-class technology.

Olivier Loison, Managing Director of Alstom India, expressed pride in partnering with Indian Railways, stating, “The Vande Bharat trains represent the modern face of rail-based mobility in India.” The contract also includes a five-year maintenance agreement post-warranty, ensuring long-term reliability and safety.
Prototype delivery is expected by August 2026, with serial production starting in 2027. Alstom’s extensive portfolio of rail solutions and its commitment to local manufacturing underscore its role in India’s rail modernization efforts.
