Rs 500 Crore Investment to Revolutionize Medical Education and Research in India
The Tata Group has joined hands with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to establish the Tata IISc Medical School on the IISc Bengaluru campus. This groundbreaking initiative, backed by a Rs 500 crore contribution from the Tata Group, aims to redefine medical education and clinical research in India.
The Tata IISc Medical School will focus on integrating basic science and engineering with clinical practice, offering specialized programs in oncology, cardiology, neurology, nephrology, diabetes, infectious diseases, and public health. It will introduce innovative dual-degree programs like MD-PhD to train physician-scientists and medical technologists, blending advanced clinical practice with cutting-edge research.

Mr. N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, emphasized the school’s potential to transform healthcare in India through global collaboration and research-driven solutions. Prof. G Rangarajan, Director of IISc, highlighted the century-old partnership between the Tatas and IISc, underscoring their shared commitment to excellence and affordable healthcare innovation.
This collaboration aims to position India as a global leader in healthcare, creating a new generation of medical professionals equipped to address the nation’s healthcare challenges.
