Alstom Delivers First Train for Pune Metro Line 3

Made-in-India Trains Boost Local Connectivity

First Train Successfully Delivered

On June 3, 2024, Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, announced the successful delivery of the first Metropolis metro train for Pune Metro Line 3. The train was manufactured at Alstom’s state-of-the-art facility in Sricity, Andhra Pradesh.

This delivery marks a significant milestone in the Pune Metro project, which aims to enhance urban mobility in the city.

Locally Manufactured and Designed for Speed

The trains, which are 100% made in India, are designed to reach a speed of 95 km/h and will operate at a speed of 85 km/h. These trains will connect Hinjewadi’s IT hub with Shivajinagar’s central business district, two major areas in Pune, Maharashtra’s second-largest city.

Alstom’s Commitment to Pune’s Development

Olivier Loison, Managing Director of Alstom India, expressed his excitement at the handover ceremony. “We are thrilled to be contributing to this prestigious project by Tata Group. We are confident that our locally manufactured, technologically advanced Metropolis metro trains will play a key role in enhancing the quality of life of the citizens and the overall development of the city,” he said.

He emphasized Alstom’s focus on developing sustainable products and solutions that are built to last and operate efficiently for decades.

About Pune Metro Line 3

The Pune Metro Line 3 project is a 23 km elevated metro rail line that connects the IT hub of Hinjewadi with the central business district of Shivajinagar.

The project, which includes 23 stations, is a collaborative effort between the Tata Group and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

Collaborative Effort

In 2021, a joint venture was formed between Alstom India, TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (a Tata Group Company), and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH (a subsidiary of Siemens Financial Services).

This partnership was awarded the contract by PMRDA to provide the rolling stock, electrical, and mechanical systems for the elevated metro line. The project follows a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model.

Future Prospects

As part of the contract, Alstom is set to manufacture 22 Metropolis trainsets, each consisting of three cars, with a capacity to carry 1,000 passengers per train. This initiative is expected to significantly improve urban mobility and contribute to the sustainable development of Pune.

Alstom and Metropolis are trademarks of the Alstom Group, underscoring the company’s leadership in the global mobility sector.
