Mumbai, April 7, 2025 – Tata Power, India’s leading integrated power company, has secured approval from MERC to deploy a 100 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) across 10 strategic locations in Mumbai within two years. This cutting-edge system will ensure uninterrupted power supply to critical facilities like metros, hospitals, airports, and data centers during grid failures while enhancing energy efficiency.
The BESS features ‘black start’ capability, enabling rapid power restoration and peak load management, reducing reliance on costly infrastructure upgrades. It will also lower electricity tariffs by storing energy during off-peak hours and supplying it during high-demand periods. Additionally, the system will optimize renewable energy use, storing excess solar power for later consumption.
