Suzlon Group has taken a significant step towards decarbonising India’s steel industry. They secured a 400 MW wind power order from JSP Green Wind 1 Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Jindal Renewables Power Private Limited. This milestone order is the largest Commercial & Industrial (C&I) win in the industry. It underscores Suzlon’s market leadership. It also shows their commitment to advancing India’s clean energy transition.

The project will involve the installation of 127 cutting-edge wind turbine generators (WTGs). These WTGs will use Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) towers. Each tower has a capacity of 3.15 MW, in the Koppal region of Karnataka.

The power generated will support the steel plants in Chhattisgarh and Odisha. This will significantly reduce their carbon footprint. It also contributes to India’s renewable energy goals. This project brings Suzlon’s cumulative order book to nearly 5.4 GW.

A Major Step Toward Sustainable Steelmaking

Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, expressed pride in the partnership with Jindal. He called it a bold move toward a low-carbon future. “This collaboration redefines industrial sustainability and aligns with India’s 2070 net-zero vision,” said Tanti. He emphasized that the initiative sets a new benchmark for sustainable industrial practices.

Bharat Saxena, President of Jindal Renewables, highlighted the project as a key component of Jindal’s commitment. It integrates green energy into steelmaking. The project aims to achieve the group’s net-zero goals by 2047. “This collaboration marks the beginning of a new era in sustainable steel production,” Saxena said.

JP Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group, reinforced the significance of decarbonising the steel sector. This is a critical industry in India’s renewable energy ambitions. “This partnership showcases the power of collaboration between two Indian conglomerates,” said Chalasani. “It sets an example for others to follow,” he noted, highlighting its alignment with the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.

Driving India’s Renewable Future

Jindal Renewables is currently developing nearly 3 GW of renewable assets and plans to expand to 12 GW by 2030. Suzlon, with a global wind energy capacity of ~20.8 GW across 17 countries, continues to lead the charge in renewable energy solutions.

With this partnership, both companies are making significant strides toward India’s green energy transition and long-term sustainability goals.
