The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) achieved a milestone on January 12, 2024, by conducting a successful flight-test of the New Generation AKASH (AKASH-NG) missile. The test took place at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, located off the coast of Odisha at 1030 hrs.
Test Against High-Speed Unmanned Aerial Target
During the flight-test, the AKASH-NG missile was engaged against a high-speed unmanned aerial target flying at very low altitude. The weapon system demonstrated its capability by successfully intercepting and destroying the target. The test affirmed the effective functioning of the entire weapon system, which includes the missile with an indigenously developed Radio Frequency Seeker, Launcher, Multi-Function Radar, and Command, Control & Communication system.
