Kolkata, 14 January 2024: In a significant development aligned with India’s transformative policies such as Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat, Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) unveiled the first indigenous 25T Bollard Pull Tug at its facility in Titagarh, Barrackpore. The launch took place at 04:00 AM in the Shipyard at Titagarh, West Bengal.
Chief Guest and Launch Details
Commodore S Sreekumar, Warship Production Superintendent, WOT(Kol), Indian Navy, graced the launch ceremony as the chief guest. The tug, designed for diverse maritime operations, was strategically launched in alignment with designs that facilitate its deployment in water.
Integral Role in Naval Operations
As part of the proactive engagement of Titagarh in supporting the Government of India’s initiatives, the company is actively involved in constructing a fleet of six specialized tugs for the Indian Navy. Each tug is designed to provide a 25-ton Bollard Pull, showcasing robust capabilities for various maritime operations. Their primary functions include assisting naval vessels, including ships and submarines, in berthing, unberthing, and maneuvering.
Versatility in Operations
These tugs play a crucial role in the “cold move” of vessels undergoing maintenance, ensuring seamless operations during dry docking and undocking processes. In adverse weather conditions, the tugboats are essential for providing support to warships, preventing potential damage, and offering firefighting assistance. They are also equipped to handle more challenging assignments such as salvage operations and Search & Rescue (SAR) missions beyond the confines of the port.
Statement from TRSL’s Vice-Chairman and Managing Director
Umesh Chowdhary, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of TRSL, expressed pride and honor in serving the critical requirement of the Indian Navy with indigenously produced state-of-the-art tugs. He stated, “We look forward to catering to the nation’s needs in strengthening its defense capabilities.”
