Rs 75 Crores Sanctioned for Mysore Airport Runway Expansion Land Acquisition

In the third lot, Rs. 75 Crores has been Sanctioned by Karnataka Government towards Mysore airport Runway Expansion. 

Mysore Airport’s runway expansion works are set to commence in January 2024. This was discussed during the Airport Advisory Committee meeting chaired by Member of Parliament, Mysore, Shri Pratap Simha, along with Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials on August 25, 2023.

KIISDC has been appointed as the nodal agency to facilitate the transfer of land to the AAI. KIADB will be acquiring the land on behalf of KIISDC.

Cost and Land Requirements for Mysore Airport Runway Expansion 

In this initial phase, the runway will undergo expansion from its current dimensions of 1740 x 30 meters to 2750 x 45 meters to accommodate A320 type flights, for which a total of 240 acres is required. As of the current date, KIADB has acquired a total of 206 acres and 22.5 gunta of land.

The estimated cost of land acquisition is Rs. 319.13 crores, at a rate of Rs. 1.5 Crore per acre. As per the MOU between AAI and the state government, the acquisition of land falls under the jurisdiction of the state government.

Release of Funds in Tranches

According to the Karnataka Government’s order, Rs. 319.13 crores has been administratively approved for the Mysore Airport runway expansion works.

In this regard, on June 4, 2022, the state government sanctioned Rs. 50 crores in the first tranche, and on November 19, 2022, Rs. 100 crores was sanctioned in the second tranche. On June 8, 2023, KIADB requested the state government to release Rs. 183.8 crores. However, the state government reiterated that Rs. 169.13 crores is pending as per the administrative approval.

Now, in the third tranche, the state government has released Rs. 75 crores. In total, Rs. 225 crores has been sanctioned by the state government. With around Rs 95 crores pending on part of the state government and the additional Rs 14 Crores sought by KIADB if any. 

In a press release, MP Shri Pratap Simha stated that he has been urging the state government to release more funds to expedite the commencement of the work. He also said that the Land acquisition work will begin immediately.
