Railways to upgrade Yesvantpur Arsikere section with Automatic Signalling

In response to escalating demands for improved rail services, the Railway Board has greenlit the installation of Automatic Signalling along the Yesvantpur-Arsikere route. This substantial undertaking, covering a distance of 165.86 kilometers, has received a budgetary allocation of Rs. 218.75 Crores.

Rising Commuter Needs in Bengaluru & Mysuru Divisions

Both Bengaluru and Mysuru Divisions have witnessed a persistent uptick in the need for additional commuter trains, particularly within the Yesvantpur-Arsikere Section. The Yesvantpur-Sampige Road stretch, constituting 107.21 kilometers and falling under the Bengaluru Division, currently operates at peak hours with a line capacity utilization of 118%. Simultaneously, the section between Sampige Road and Arsikere, spanning 58.65 kilometers and under Mysuru Division, experiences a peak hours line capacity utilization of 81%.

Project Objectives: Addressing Traffic Surge

With an anticipation of a substantial rise in both passenger and freight traffic, encompassing commodities like food grains, fertilizers, POL, cement, steel, and automobiles, the Automatic Signalling project aims to significantly enhance line capacity. This boost in capacity will facilitate the seamless operation of additional trains at shorter intervals, effectively meeting the growing demands of commuters and promoting economic development in the region.

Three-Year Timeline for Completion

The project is slated for completion within a span of three years, aligning with a strategic vision to accommodate the projected surge in rail traffic over the next decade. The implementation of Automatic Signalling marks a pivotal step in the modernization and optimization of rail infrastructure, ensuring a more efficient and robust transportation network.

This initiative reflects the Railway Board’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of passengers and industries while laying the groundwork for a future-ready rail system.
