NTPC Renewable Energy Declares Commercial Operation of Dayapar Wind Project

New Delhi – NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a subsidiary of NTPC, marked a significant milestone as it officially declared the commercial operation of its maiden project, the 50 MW Dayapar Wind Project, located in Kachch, Gujarat.

Powering Gujarat’s Green Future

The Dayapar Wind Project represents NTPC REL’s first venture into the renewable energy sector. The project’s successful commissioning, in compliance with the new Indian Electricity Grid Code and General Network Access Regime, is a step forward in India’s commitment to sustainable energy.

A Boost to NTPC Group’s Capacity

With the inauguration of the Dayapar Wind Project, NTPC Group’s total installed capacity has now reached an impressive 73,874 MW. Notably, the total renewable energy operational capacity of NTPC Group stands at 3,364 MW, thanks to this addition.

Pioneering Renewable Energy

Dayapar Wind not only marks NTPC REL’s debut in the renewable energy domain but is also the first project in India to attain commercial status under the new regulations, setting a precedent for the industry.

A Glimpse into the Future

While the Dayapar Wind Project is a major milestone, it’s just the beginning. NTPC REL is actively pursuing 15 other renewable energy projects at various stages of execution, with a combined capacity of 6,210 MW. When fully operational, the Dayapar Wind Complex alone will contribute an additional 450 MW to NTPC’s existing wind portfolio, which currently stands at 100 MW.

Beyond Wind and Solar

NTPC REL is not limiting its green energy endeavors to wind alone. The company is also venturing into Green Hydrogen technologies, focusing on green hydrogen storage and microgrid principles. A substantial capacity is being established in Ladakh to further bolster the company’s commitment to renewable energy.

NTPC Green Energy’s Contributions

In addition to NTPC REL’s achievements, NTPC Green Energy Ltd. (NGEL), another wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC, has commissioned an impressive renewable energy capacity of 2,711 MW. NGEL is also taking steps to set up two noteworthy solar projects, including a 40 MW Solar project in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, and a Hydrogen Hub in Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh.

A Journey of Growth and Sustainability

NTPC REL was established as a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC on October 7, 2020, with the primary goal of accelerating the addition of renewable energy capacity within the NTPC Group. As part of its long-term growth plan and commitment to sustainability, NTPC aims to achieve a remarkable 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032. Currently, the company has an extensive pipeline of more than 20 GW in renewable energy projects.

The successful launch of the Dayapar Wind Project is a testament to NTPC REL’s dedication to India’s clean energy future, and it paves the way for a more sustainable and eco-friendly power generation landscape in the country.
