The South Western Railway is introducing MEMU trains to enhance the daily commute between Tumakuru, Yesvantpur, Hosur, and Banasawadi. This initiative aims to improve the local railway network for passengers traveling between key areas in and around Bengaluru.
Inaugural Ceremony on September 27, 2024
The inaugural run of the new MEMU trains will take place on September 27, 2024. Honorable Minister of State for Railways (MoSR) Shri V. Somanna will flag off the first train from Tumakuru railway station. A special service, Train No. 06521, will depart from Tumakuru at 10:00 AM and reach Yesvantpur at 11:20 AM. This special train will halt at several stations en route, including Kyatsandra, Hirehalli, and Chikbanavar.
The inaugural train will consist of eight coaches, marking the beginning of better connectivity for local passengers.
Regular Train Services to Begin
Regular services for these new MEMU trains will commence in phases:
- Tumakuru-Yesvantpur-Tumakuru (Train No. 06201/06202):
- From Tumakuru: Starts on September 28, 2024. The train will depart at 8:45 AM, reaching Yesvantpur at 10:25 AM, operating daily except Sundays.
- From Yesvantpur: Starts on September 27, 2024. This train will leave Yesvantpur at 5:40 PM and arrive in Tumakuru by 7:05 PM.
- Yesvantpur-Hosur-Yesvantpur (Train No. 06203/06204):
- From Yesvantpur: Starting on September 28, 2024, the train will run daily except Sundays. It will depart at 8:45 AM and arrive at Hosur by 12:30 PM.
- From Hosur: The return service will depart from Hosur at 3:20 PM, reaching Yesvantpur by 5:15 PM.
- Banaswadi-Tumakuru-Banaswadi (Train No. 06205/06206):
- From Banaswadi: Train No. 06205 will operate on Mondays only. Service starts on September 30, 2024. The train departs at 6:15 AM and arrives in Tumakuru at 8:35 AM.
- From Tumakuru: Train No. 06206 will operate on Saturdays only. It will start on September 28, 2024. The train will depart at 7:40 PM and reach Banaswadi by 10:05 PM.
Enhanced Connectivity for Daily Commuters
With the introduction of these MEMU trains in SWR system, commuters in Tumakuru, Yesvantpur, Hosur, and Banasawadi will enjoy faster and more efficient rail services.
All trains will be composed of eight MEMU coaches, designed to meet the increasing demand for local travel. This launch represents another milestone in improving connectivity, particularly for Bengaluru and surrounding areas.
