Kolkata, June 20, 2024 – Jupiter Electric Mobility Private Limited, a subsidiary of Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL), in collaboration with Log9 Materials Private Limited, a prominent Indian deep-tech innovation and energy storage technology firm, has achieved significant milestones in the development and certification of Lithium-Ion Phosphate (LFP) battery technology. These advancements promise to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of rail transport in India.
Key Milestones
- RDSO Certification for Non-AC Coaches: Jupiter Electric Mobility has successfully completed a six-month trial of its 11.2 kWh LFP battery pack designed for rail coaches. This trial has led to the company becoming the first to receive certification from the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) for such battery technology. This accomplishment marks a pivotal moment in advancing battery technology for Indian Railways.
- Siemens Contract for Vande Bharat Trainsets: Jupiter has been awarded a purchase order by Siemens for the supply of 36 auxiliary batteries, each with a capacity of 72.8 kWh, for 9 Vande Bharat Trainsets. This contract underscores the trust Siemens places in Jupiter’s advanced battery solutions. Additionally, the 72.8 kWh LFP battery pack has secured RDSO approval, reinforcing its reliability and safety for use in rail applications.
- Technical Qualification by BHEL: The 72.8 kWh LFP battery pack has also been technically qualified by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) for use in Vande Bharat Trainsets. This endorsement from a significant player in the railway sector demonstrates the technical excellence and robustness of Jupiter’s battery solutions.
Enhancing Indian Railways’ Sustainability
These milestones reflect Jupiter Wagons’ commitment to supporting the modernization and electrification of Indian Railways, contributing to a greener and more efficient transportation network. The LFP battery technology developed by Jupiter offers superior performance, safety, and longevity, making it ideal for a wide range of railway applications.
Mr. Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Wagons, commented on these achievements, stating, “These accomplishments highlight our unwavering dedication to innovation and excellence in railway technology. The RDSO certification, the trust demonstrated by Siemens, and the technical qualification by BHEL are clear indicators of the superior quality and dependability of our LFP battery solutions. With the significant demand from Indian Railways and the shift from conventional energy sources towards sustainable and energy-efficient solutions, we believe this sector can emerge as a substantial contributor to our overall revenue over the medium to long term.”
