Global digital services and consulting leader, Infosys (NSE, BSE, NYSE: INFY), has announced a strategic collaboration with Shell New Energies UK Ltd (“Shell”), a prominent international energy company. The partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of immersion cooling services for data centers, combining Infosys’ digital expertise with Shell’s energy capabilities.
Integrated Offering for Green Data Centers
Infosys and Shell, along with an ecosystem of partners, plan to create an integrated offering for green data centers. This collaborative effort will leverage Shell Immersion Cooling Fluid—a synthetic, single-phase immersion cooling fluid designed for optimal energy efficiency and performance. Infosys will contribute its AI-first set of services, solutions, and platforms, known as Infosys Topaz, utilizing generative AI technologies.
Addressing Industry Challenges
Recent industry estimates indicate that data centers contribute up to 1.5 percent of global electricity consumption and 1 percent of global CO2 emissions. The rise of AI workloads is expected to further escalate these figures. Immersion cooling technology offers a potential solution, claiming up to 30% lower CO2 emissions and a 48% reduction in energy footprint production.

Pilot Testing and Global Expansion
Shell and Infosys plan to conduct pilot testing of the immersion cooling technology, combining Shell’s expertise in this field with Infosys’ digital solutions. Following successful trials at Shell’s and Infosys’ data centers, the collaborative offering will be extended to other customers globally.
Commitment to Sustainability
Infosys, having achieved carbon neutrality 30 years ahead of the Paris Agreement’s 2050 timeline, recognizes the imperative of reducing carbon intensity. The company has developed tailored solutions to support clients on their decarbonization journey. Shell aims to become a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050. Together, Infosys and Shell envision leveraging digital technologies to monitor and optimize immersion cooling, further reducing energy consumption and lowering carbon dioxide emissions.
The collaboration between Infosys and Shell represents a concerted effort to harness technology for sustainable solutions in data center management.
