RITES Initiates Aerial LIDAR Survey
RITES Limited(RITES) has issued a tender for conducting an Aerial LIDAR Survey and other fieldwork for the Final Location Survey of the proposed new Chennai Bengaluru Semi High-Speed Rail railway line.
The expected length of the railway line is approximately 350 kilometers.
The proposed semi-high-speed rail line is designed for a speed of 220 km/h, with an operational speed of 200 km/h between Chennai Central and Bengaluru’s Byappanahalli station.
An aerial LIDAR survey will aid in developing a precise final alignment, conducting traffic studies, preparing comprehensive plans and cost estimates, and submitting a Detailed Project Report (DPR), among other tasks.
Following this, land requirements and the budget will be determined based on the survey results and subsequently submitted to the railway board for approval.
Contract Terms & Timelines
The appointed vendor is required to complete the Aerial LiDAR survey and data processing within 25 days from the effective date of the contract. Assuming that Indian Railways will approve the final alignment within 15 days after the contractor submits the data related to the LiDAR survey, there will be an additional 15 days allocated for land plan preparation, processing for approval/clearance, and staking of the final alignment.
In the event of any delay in the approval of the final alignment by the Railway, the Contractor will be compensated only by receiving an extension of time as per the General Conditions of Contract (GCC). No additional payment will be provided to the contractor due to delays in alignment approval by the Railways.

Comprehensive Scope of Work for Chennai Bengaluru Semi High-Speed Rail
The vendor is responsible for:
- Setting up Ground Control Points.
- Conducting an Aerial LIDAR Survey, utilizing either Aircraft or Helicopter.
- Supplementing the survey with Aerial Photography and Videography.
This work will be executed within the designated Area of Interest (AOI), covering the approved alignment from Chennai Central to Bengaluru, extending up to Byappanahalli Station.
The survey maps will encompass all urban environmental elements along the alignment, which will assist in the finalization of the plans.

Background Chennai Bengaluru Semi High-Speed Rail
Earlier, the Southern Railway had issued a tender to conduct the final location survey for the new semi-high-speed rail line between Chennai Central and Bengaluru (Byappanahalli) stations. Concurrently, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is advancing a high-speed rail project with the goal of connecting Chennai, Bengaluru, and Mysuru, spanning a distance of 435 kilometers.
