Recently, the Union Minister for Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology and Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, unveiled India’s swiftest and homegrown IP/MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) router in Bengaluru on Saturday, marking a significant milestone. Boasting a remarkable capacity of 2.4 terabits per second (tdps), this cutting-edge router is a testament to India’s technological prowess.
A product of a successful Public – Private initiative
Crafted through a collaborative effort involving the government’s Department of Telecom (DoT), Center for Department of Telematics (CDOT), and Nivetti. The router stands as a shining example of indigenous innovation. Addressing the audience at the launch ceremony, Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed profound pride in this achievement, recognizing it as a pivotal moment for the nation.
“He emphasized the importance of launching this indigenous router to support the Prime Minister’s vision of Digital India, highlighting the pivotal role networking plays in this transformative initiative. The minister remarked that networking serves as the backbone of our Digital India endeavors, and core routers like this hold immense importance. He added that it is truly gratifying to witness the design, development, and manufacture of such complex equipment take place within India’s borders. This underscores the nation’s strides towards self-reliance in critical technological domains.”
Presenting the standout features of India’s fastest router
Unmatched Speed: With a blazing speed of 2.4 terabits per second (tbps), this router sets a new benchmark in data transmission. Terabytes per second (TBps) equate to a staggering 1,000 gigabytes or one lakh crore bytes per second, ensuring lightning-fast connectivity.
Versatile Application: Minister Vaishnaw emphasized the router’s pivotal role in fostering growth across diverse sectors, including Railways communication networks, power grids, telecommunications, and television media. Its installation promises to catalyze advancements in these vital domains.
Innovative MPLS Technology: Leveraging Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), a sophisticated routing technique, the router efficiently directs data from one node to the next. This method enhances data transfer by utilizing labels rather than traditional network addresses, ensuring optimized performance.
Collaborative Development: Engineered through a collaborative effort involving the Department of Telecom, CDOT, and Nivetti, this router embodies the spirit of indigenous innovation. Its capability to handle 2.4 tbps data marks a significant leap in networking technology, poised to elevate India’s digital infrastructure to unprecedented heights.
