Air India, a prominent player in global aviation, proudly introduced the first of its 20 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, bearing the registration VT-JRA. This aircraft showcases the airline’s fresh and daring new look, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing transformation.
A Historic Arrival in New Delhi
The Airbus A350-900 touched down at New Delhi at 13:46 Hrs (local time) today, arriving from Airbus’ facility in Toulouse, France. Operating under the special call sign AI350, the delivery flight was greeted by Air India representatives. Onboard, Senior Commander Capt. Monika Batra Vaidya, one of the first Indian pilots trained on the A350, observed this historic moment.

Leading Indian Aviation’s Renaissance
Air India takes the lead in revitalizing Indian aviation by introducing the first new widebody fleet type in over a decade. This accomplishment also makes Air India the first Indian airline to operate the A350, following its pioneering induction of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet in 2012.

Commercial Service Set for 2024
Air India’s A350 will commence commercial service in January 2024, initially flying domestically for crew familiarization before embarking on longer-haul routes across continents. The detailed schedule for commercial operations with the A350 will be announced in the coming weeks.
A Luxurious Cabin Configuration
The A350-900 boasts a three-class cabin configuration designed by Collins Aerospace, featuring 316 seats. This includes 28 private Business Class suites, 24 Premium Economy seats with extra legroom, and 264 spacious Economy Class seats. All seats come equipped with the latest-generation Panasonic eX3 in-flight entertainment system and HD screens.
Future Orders and Global Brand Overhaul
Air India has 20 Airbus A350-900s on order, with five more scheduled for delivery through March 2024. Additionally, the airline’s firm orders with Airbus include 20 A350-1000s. As part of its modernization efforts, Air India recently rolled out a new global brand identity, including a consumer-friendly website and mobile app, and stylish new uniforms for cabin and cockpit crew designed by Indian celebrity couturier, Manish Malhotra. The A350 will be the first aircraft to showcase these sleek new uniforms in action.
