Pune, Maharashtra – In a significant move towards bolstering civil aviation infrastructure in Pune, Union Minister for Civil Aviation and Steel, Jyotiraditya Scindia, conducted a thorough review of the newly constructed terminal at Pune airport located in Lohegaon on January 12 .
Speaking at a press conference in Pune, Minister Scindia expressed the government’s commitment to providing advanced air transport services to the pivotal city in Maharashtra.

Pune’s Significance and Historical Heritage
During an interactive session with the media, Minister Scindia underscored Pune’s importance, citing its historical significance and rich cultural heritage. Pune, once the capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the Peshwa Empire, holds a special place in the country’s history. Minister Scindia stressed that the development of Pune aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for progress and growth.
Focused Efforts for Development
Minister Scindia highlighted Pune’s immense potential as a national hub for information technology, education, and manufacturing. He reiterated the shared vision of Prime Minister Modi, Maharashtra Chief Minister, and Deputy Chief Ministers in positioning Pune at the forefront of civil aviation. The ongoing construction of the new airport terminal stands as a testament to this collective vision.

Airport Design Reflecting Cultural Identity
The Union Civil Aviation Minister emphasized that an airport is more than just a physical structure; it serves as the gateway for travelers to explore a new city. He stressed the importance of integrating the history and culture of the city, region, and state into the airport’s design. Pune airport, with its exterior inspired by the historical Shaniwarwada landmark, incorporates an equestrian statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, symbolizing the founding of Hind Swarajya.
Showcasing Maharashtra’s Diversity
Minister Scindia revealed that the walls of Pune airport will feature images portraying the diversity of Maharashtra, ensuring that the airport becomes a reflection of the state’s rich cultural tapestry. He described the airport as the “living soul of Maharashtra.”

Pune Airport’s Growth Trajectory
Built across an expansive area of 52 thousand square meters, Pune airport has witnessed substantial growth in connectivity over the years. From connecting with 17 cities in 2014, it now links to 37 cities within the country. Additionally, international direct flights to Singapore and Dubai contribute to Pune’s global connectivity.
As the inauguration of the new terminal approaches, Minister Scindia assured that the government remains steadfast in its commitment to the comprehensive development of Maharashtra, with Pune at the forefront of the civil aviation landscape.
