South Western Railway announces redevelopment plans to transform Tumakuru Railway Station into a state-of-the-art facility.

Tumakuru – Tumakuru Railway Station is set for a significant transformation with a proposed redevelopment project under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode. South Western Railway (SWR) has invited proposals for this ₹74.98 crore project, aimed at accommodating future growth and improving passenger experiences.

The project includes the construction of a modern, iconic station building designed to meet demands for the next 50 years. Enhanced facilities such as multi-level parking, Divyangjan-friendly infrastructure, solar panels, and improved circulation areas will cater to the station’s daily passenger footfall of over 17,000.

Tumakuru, a key hub in Karnataka, is already part of India’s Smart Cities Mission. With new rail lines connecting Davangere and Rayadurga under development, the station is expected to become a major junction in the region.

Key Features of the Redevelopment Plan

  • New Station Building:

A new iconic station building inspired by the classical architecture of Siddaganga Mutt is proposed as part of the redevelopment. • FOB 1 (12 mtr WIDE):

The building will be integrated with a 12-meter-wide foot overbridge (FOB), accessible from the ground floor via escalators, lifts, and staircases, connecting to all platforms. The FOB will also include commercial shops.

In the future, based on passenger traffic, an additional 3-meter-wide FOB connecting all platforms may be constructed at the Bengaluru end of the station.

  • Proposed new Multistorey Parking for Four & Two wheelers:

During peak hours and busy days, the railway station experiences an overflow of parked vehicles outside its premises, highlighting its high usage and popularity among the public. With the current parking area being inadequate and no designated parking for four-wheelers, a G+4 multi-level parking (MLP) facility is proposed, which will involve relocating eight Type-II quarters.

The ground floor of the MLP will accommodate 44 four-wheelers, while the four upper floors will provide parking space for 980 two-wheelers. The MLP will be connected to the main station building on the first floor via an external passage for seamless access.
