Growing Need for Better Rail Connectivity

The cities of Bengaluru, Pune, and Mumbai are important economic centers in India. However, there is a lack of dedicated and fast rail connectivity between these cities.

A dedicated train like a Vande Bharat sleeper between Mumbai & Bengaluru via Pune would fill the gap. It is expected to cover the distance in shorter time. It will provide top notch amenities. The Udyan Express, however, takes close to 23 hours to cover the distance. It makes 32 stops along the route, leading to a significantly long journey time. Despite this, the train often runs at full capacity, and securing a reservation is difficult due to long waitlists.

In contrast, buses, which are a popular alternative, take around 16 hours to complete the journey. Bus fares tend to be highly dynamic. This is particularly true during festive seasons. Private operators have the freedom to set prices according to demand. This makes travel costlier. Additionally, the fixed pricing structure of a rail service would ensure affordability. The set prices make rail travel accessible for a broader segment of travelers.
