A Greenfield Project in Chikkamagaluru
The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), India’s largest hospitality company, continues its expansion in Karnataka. They have signed a new Taj branded hotel in Chikkamagaluru.
Announced on September 26, 2024, this greenfield project will be developed in partnership with Arnaytive Resorts. The hotel, Taj Chikkamagaluru, aims to highlight the region’s natural beauty and untapped tourism potential.
World-Class Destination with Scenic Views
Chikkamagaluru is famous for its lush rainforests, coffee plantations, and adventure trails. It is an ideal location for the new Taj hotel. IHCL’s Executive Vice President of Real Estate & Development, Ms. Suma Venkatesh, stated, “Chikkamagaluru can be positioned as a world-class destination. This aligns with IHCL’s strategy of promoting India’s lesser-known locations on the global tourism map.”
The hotel will feature 160 rooms. It will be set on a sprawling 25-acre property. The property is surrounded by coffee estates and offers stunning views of the Mullayanagiri Peak. Guests will have access to a wide range of amenities. These include two swimming pools, a J Wellness Circle spa, multiple dining options, a fitness center, and a kids’ club.
Catering to Leisure and Business Travelers
Taj Chikkamagaluru will focus on leisure travelers. It will also offer extensive facilities for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events.
The hotel will provide over 5,000 square feet of banqueting space. This includes meeting rooms and a pre-function area. It will make the hotel a prime location for corporate gatherings.
Partnership for Sustainable Hospitality
Arnaytive Resorts, the development partner, is known for its focus on sustainability in hospitality. Co-founder VP Kiran expressed excitement about bringing the Taj brand to Chikkamagaluru, noting the region’s potential as a picturesque getaway.

IHCL’s Expanding Footprint in Karnataka
With the addition of Taj Chikkamagaluru, IHCL will now have 24 hotels in Karnataka. There are 9 more in various stages of development.
