Tata Power Boosts Renewable Energy Evacuation with Bikaner-Neemrana Transmission Acquisition

Tata Power, a prominent player in India’s power sector and a key entity within the Tata Group, has secured the winning bid for the acquisition of Bikaner-III Neemrana-II Transmission Limited. This acquisition involves a project special purpose vehicle (SPV) established by PFC Consulting Limited, a subsidiary of Power Finance Corporation.

The company was officially awarded the letter of intent (LOI) after successfully emerging as the top bidder in the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process, adhering to the guidelines set by the Union Ministry of Power.

Project Details and Significance of Bikaner-Neemrana Transmission

The transmission project, developed on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis, is designed to facilitate the evacuation of 7.7 GW of renewable energy from the Bikaner Complex in Rajasthan. The transmission corridor covers approximately 340 kilometers from Bikaner-III pooling station to Neemrana II substation. It would cost about ₹1,544 crore. Tata Power will be responsible for maintaining the transmission project for a duration of 35 years, with an expected commissioning timeline of 24 months from the date of project SPV transfer.

Key Milestone in India’s Renewable Energy Integration

Upon successful commissioning, this transmission project will play a pivotal role in realizing the Ministry of Power’s 2022 roadmap. The roadmap aims to integrate over 500 GW of renewable energy capacity into the national grid by 2030, marking a significant step in India’s clean energy transition.
