Milestone Moment: Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM), a subsidiary of Tata Motors, proudly inaugurates its new production facility in Sanand, Gujarat, marking a significant achievement in the company’s journey.
First Car Rolls Out: TPEM celebrated the occasion by rolling out its first Tata branded car from the state-of-the-art assembly line. The event witnessed the presence of TPEM Managing Director, Shailesh Chandra, and leaders from the Passenger and Electric vehicles businesses.

A Proud Achievement
Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director expressed pride, stating, “Witnessing the first car roll out of the new TPEM facility in Sanand is a proud moment for us.” He acknowledged the government’s support and credited employees for this accomplishment, emphasizing the facility’s pivotal role in steering Tata Motors towards new heights.
Capacity Expansion
The new facility, acquired from Ford India in January 2023, spans 460 acres, becoming Tata Motors’ second plant in Gujarat for manufacturing both ICE and EV models. With a capacity of 300,000 units per annum (scalable to 420,000 units), it is equipped with advanced technology across key production processes.

Technological Advancements
Major retooling and tech upgrades include enhancements in the press, weld, paint, and assembly shops. From critical skin panel stamping to the modification of handling systems, the plant adopts world-class technologies, setting a benchmark in the industry.
Job Creation and Upskilling
The facility currently employs over 1000 individuals and aims to create an additional 1000 jobs in the next 3 to 4 months, aligning with production ramp-up plans. Tata Motors has invested in upskilling its workforce, offering education opportunities from diplomas to master’s degrees.

Commitment to Sustainability
In line with Tata Motors’ commitment to sustainability, the plant features a 50 KW solar rooftop, making it water-neutral and expected to be water-positive by December 2024.
Future of Electric Mobility
Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) is committed to leading the electric mobility revolution in India. As part of the ‘Tata UniEVerse,’ TPEM aims to invest $2 billion by 2026, launching 10 new electric vehicles and supporting the local manufacture of key components. With a focus on building a widespread charging infrastructure, TPEM aims to facilitate rapid EV adoption in India.
