In a significant milestone, SJVN (formerly known as Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited) has successfully commissioned both units of the 60 MW Naitwar Mori Hydro Power Station (“NMHPS”) situated on the River Tons, a major tributary of the River Yamuna in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.

Following thorough testing and seamless synchronization with the national grid, both units are now generating electricity commercially. This accomplishment has elevated SJVN’s overall installed generation capacity to an impressive 2152 MW.

Project Overview of SJVN 60 MW Naitwar Mori Hydro Power Station

The NMHPS project boasts a robust infrastructure, featuring a diversion structure measuring 18.5 meters in height and 50 meters in length at the top. Water is diverted from this structure into a 4.33-kilometer-long Head Race Tunnel with a diameter of 5.6 meters. The underground power house comprises two generating units, each with a capacity of 30 MW.

Electricity Generation and Transmission

Upon completion, the NMHPS is expected to generate 265.5 million units of electricity annually. The power generated will be evacuated through a newly constructed 37 km long 220 KV Transmission Line from Bainol to Snail, another testament to SJVN’s commitment to a comprehensive energy infrastructure.

Post-commissioning, SJVN is dedicated to providing significant benefits to the state of Uttarakhand. As part of a commendable social responsibility initiative, 12% of the electricity generated will be supplied to Uttarakhand as royalty. Moreover, each family associated with the project will receive an amount equivalent to the cost of 100 units of electricity per month for ten years.
