Approval of Major Development Projects
The state cabinet, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has approved projects worth ₹11,770 crore. These projects aim to enhance the development of the Kalyana Karnataka region. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting in Kalaburagi, where 46 key issues concerning the region were discussed.
This approval includes major initiatives. These include the upgradation of Bidar and Raichur towns into city municipalities. There is also a ₹7,200 crore drinking water project for villages in Bidar and Kalaburagi.
Central Government Partnership for Water Project
One of the most significant projects is the water project. It aims at bringing water from the Narayanapura Dam to Kalyana Karnataka. This ₹7,200 crore project is expected to be funded in partnership with the central government. The central government will contribute half of the required amount.
The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of this project during a press conference following the meeting.
Request for ₹5,000 Crore from Central Government
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah revealed that the state has decided to request ₹5,000 crore from the central government. This request aims to further the development of Kalyana Karnataka. He noted that since the implementation of Article 371J, no funds have been allocated for the region. The central government has not provided any funds. This makes the request crucial for continued progress.
Filling of Vacant Positions and Health Infrastructure Boost
In an effort to address employment, the state government will fill 17,439 vacant positions in phases across the region. Additionally, the cabinet approved the construction of 45 new Primary Health Centers and 31 Community Health Centers. A total of ₹890 crore has been allocated for upgrading 9 taluk hospitals. The funds will also be used for converting 2 taluk hospitals into district hospitals.
Focus on Backward Taluks
A committee led by Dr. Govinda Rao has been established to assess the backward taluks in Kalyana Karnataka. The government will take action to uplift these areas based on the committee’s report. This action continues the state’s commitment to reducing regional imbalances.
The state government’s dedication to the development of Kalyana Karnataka region is evident. This can be seen through the approval of large-scale projects. There are also efforts to improve infrastructure, healthcare, and employment opportunities. With support from both the state and central government, the region is set to undergo significant growth and development.
