Mysuru Railway Junction & Naganahalli Railway Yard
The emerging mini metro city will soon be upgrading its railway infrastructure in the form of remodeling of Mysuru railway junction (MYS) and Naganahalli railway yard.
The total cost of the proposed infrastructure works is 487.8 crore INR. Of which, 396.73 crore INR is estimated for the Mysuru yard remodeling while it is about 92.07 crore INR for the Naganahalli railway yard.
The expansion at the city railway station is planned to be taken up by relocating the railway staff quarters located adjacent to the yard.
The expansion will solve decades old problem
The proposed plan of the railways assumes great significance considering that the current railway yard at Mysuru is saturated, resulting in constrained operations. To accrue full benefits of track doubling between Mysuru & Bengaluru the end terminals need to have adequate berthing infrastructure.
Not having enough berthing space is one of the main reasons why trains bound to Mysuru and Bangaluru junctions end up waiting for the berth long outside.
The RFP and DPR for infrastructure upgradation
In this regard, recently, the Ministry of Railways had floated a Request For Proposal (RFP) for providing architectural and technical consultancy for a feasibility study, master planning, urban designing, engineering and preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for integrated redevelopment of Mysuru Railway Station.
Proposed addition to the infrastructure
MP Pratap Simha in a tweet confirmed the following works that are proposed to be taken up-
Mysuru railway yard
- Mysuru railway station to get a new Multimodal Third Entry.
- 3 additional Platforms
- 4 additional Pit lines
- 4 additional stabling lines
- 1 additional shunting neck
The facilities will ensure speeding up of trains and also introduction of new trains from Mysuru, thereby boosting connectivity, which will directly help the tourism and industrial sectors. The third entry aims to reduce congestion at the other two entry/exits.
Naganahalli railway yard
- 1 additional Platform
- 2 Stabling lines (1 stabling line & 1 dry pit line with MEMU shed)
The above facilities are meant to facilitate starting of MEMU services from Naganahalli.
