Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Digital Energy Solutions (DES) business has taken significant steps in the energy management sector. The company recently secured a project to develop and implement Energy Management Systems in South India. It continues to expand its portfolio in the United States.
New Projects in South India
L&T’s DES arm will implement advanced Energy Management Systems in 12 control rooms across Southern India. These systems will oversee and control energy flows in real-time. This will include states like Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana. The company will perform these upgrades without causing any downtime, ensuring the power grids remain stable.
The upgraded systems will use L&T’s own platform, L&T-Spark-CRIMTM. This will help integrate data from various power stations. It will provide a seamless operation across regional and state power centers.
Expansion in the United States
L&T is also expanding its operations in the U.S., where it recently secured another project in the western United States. This project includes upgrading control rooms with a complex setup involving over 15 Energy Management Systems (EMS). These systems will help operators monitor and improve grid reliability. L&T will also introduce advanced software to enhance situational awareness in power control rooms.
Global Reach and Renewable Energy Integration
Beyond India and the U.S., L&T DES continues to work on energy projects globally. Notably, the company is involved in modernizing control systems in renewable energy plants. For example, they are working on a large-scale solar project in Saudi Arabia. They are also involved in a solar-storage plant in Puerto Rico.
L&T’s renewable energy solutions use the L&T-Spark-PPCTM platform to manage solar power production. It ensures smooth integration into the electricity grid. These systems help renewable plants meet grid requirements, maintain reliability, and improve overall performance.
Innovative Solutions in the U.S.
In the United States, L&T is also involved in a landmark project funded by the California Energy Commission. This project aims to create a sustainable, all-electric community with advanced energy systems. The community will feature the first bi-directional electric vehicle charging network and one of the world’s most resilient apartment complexes.
Additionally, L&T is working on a 300 MW solar project in California. They are providing energy management and balancing authority services. These services ensure the smooth operation of renewable energy assets.
L&T’s Digital Energy Solutions business is making strong progress in both India and the United States. By introducing advanced energy management systems, the company is helping power grids become more reliable and efficient. It is also making them better prepared for the future. This is especially important with the increasing shift toward renewable energy sources.
