GFCL EV Launches LiPF6 Project to Enhance Global EV/ESS Battery Supply Chain

Noida, 7th February 2024 – GFCL EV Products Ltd, a 100% subsidiary of Gujarat Fluorochemicals Ltd. (GFL), has unveiled a groundbreaking investment of INR 6000 Crores over the next 4-5 years. This initiative, which has already seen approximately Rs 650 Cr invested till 31.12.2023, aims to bolster the supply of Electric Vehicle (EV) and Energy Storage System (ESS) battery solutions, reaching an estimated 200 GWh annually.

Expansion Plans

With an eye towards future growth, GFCL EV is strategically positioned to enter high-demand regions such as the US, Europe, and India. Leveraging initiatives like the IRA Act, China plus One strategy, and the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, the company aligns its expansion with GFL’s overarching vision for sustainable and innovative solutions.

Partnerships and Objectives

Establishing long-term tie-ups with global customers underscores GFCL EV’s confidence in its capabilities and offerings. The company aims for an asset turnover ratio of 2 times the CAPEX and an EBITDA margin exceeding 25%, indicative of strong profitability and returns over the coming years.

Product Portfolio and Milestones

GFCL EV’s current product portfolio includes electrolyte salts LiPF6, additives, electrolyte formulations, cathode active materials, cathode binders, NaPF6 for sodium ion batteries, and proprietary additives for fast charging. The commercial plant for the LiPF6 Project has already achieved commercial production, with the LFP project expected to be operational by Q3 of CY 24, catering to 30% of the Lithium-ion battery (LiB) value.

Industry Impact and Future Projections

GFCL EV’s commissioning and commercial production before 31st March 2024 also entitle GFCLEV for concessional 15% Income tax slab. The global opportunity for the EV battery chain is estimated to reach $300 billion by 2030, with India’s EV segment expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 30% between 2022 and 2030.

GFCL EV’s strategic initiatives not only address industry challenges but also position GFL as a frontrunner in India’s electric mobility revolution and Energy Transition, solidifying its commitment to innovation and sustainability.
