Exide Energy Solutions Limited (EESL) is setting up one of India’s first gigafactories to manufacture lithium-ion cells in Bengaluru.
The complex would also house the Research & Development center.Â
Exide Industries Limited (NSE:EXIDEIND) is India’s largest battery company. Exide has nine factories strategically located all over India. Out of the nine factories, seven focus on battery production, while the remaining two manufacture Home UPS Systems. Collectively, these plants yield an annual production of 8 million units of automobile batteries (including motorcycle batteries) and over 600 million Ampere-Hours of Industrial Power.
It has two subsidiaries focusing on Li-ion batteries:
Exide Energy Private Limited (EEPL):
- Established in 2018
- Specializes in developing and manufacturing lithium-ion-based modules and packs
- Located in Prantij, Gujarat
- Has a manufacturing capacity of 1.5 GWh
Exide Energy Solutions Limited (EESL):
- Established in 2022
- Focuses on the manufacturing of advanced chemistry cells
- Located in Bengaluru, Karnataka
- Has a manufacturing capacity of 12 GWh, divided into two phases.
EESL, a wholly owned subsidiary, focuses on manufacturing lithium-ion cells (cylindrical, pouch, prismatic). Engaged in the production, assembly and sale of battery modules and packs. It is in the development of cells and energy storage solutions for both mobility and stationary applications.
