The Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation has launched DigiYatra at nine airports to simplify and enhance the passenger experience. The airports include Visakhapatnam, Patna, Raipur, Bhubaneswar, Goa (Dabolim), Indore, Ranchi, Coimbatore, and Bagdogra. This system aims to make air travel more seamless and contactless using Facial Recognition Technology (FRT).
Launch Event at Visakhapatnam
The launch event took place at Visakhapatnam International Airport. The Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Shri Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, inaugurated the service. Additionally, the Minister virtually launched the service at eight other airports. Shri Murlidhar Mohol, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, attended the event. Senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) were also present.
Benefits of DigiYatra
DigiYatra is designed to transform how passengers are processed at airports. By using facial recognition, passengers can pass through checkpoints without having to provide multiple physical documents. This technology is expected to reduce wait times and improve overall efficiency in airports.
Future Rollout Across Indian Airports
The Ministry of Civil Aviation is committed to extending DigiYatra to all Indian airports. This move will ensure that passengers across the country benefit from faster, smoother, and safer air travel.
Shri M. Suresh, Chairman of AAI, highlighted the importance of DigiYatra, noting that it has completely revolutionized the passenger experience. The Hon’ble Minister of Civil Aviation emphasized the technological benefits of DigiYatra. He pointed out its popularity with over 3 crore users. He also assured passengers that the system has strong data protection measures in place.
