Innovative Step in Cleanliness
Central Railway’s (CR) Mumbai Division has taken a significant step forward in enhancing cleanliness at railway tracks, stations, and premises. The division’s Mechanical branch has developed a Battery Operated Portable Backpack type Vacuum garbage litter collector, which is highly productive, cost-effective, and maintenance-free.
Features of the Vacuum Cleaner
The new vacuum cleaner is a rechargeable backpack that operates on a 20 Volts DC power supply. It is connected to a flexible PVC pipe and a basket to collect trash. Weighing only 7 kilograms, it is easy to carry and operate.
This machine can collect 50 liters of garbage such as paper, glass, plastic, tetrapacks, cloth, aluminum foils, and bottles in one go. It separates biodegradable and non-biodegradable items, ensuring effective and environmentally friendly waste management.
Efficiency and Cost-Effectiveness
This innovative vacuum cleaner significantly reduces the time taken for garbage collection. While manual cleaning of a 50-meter distance takes 20 minutes, this machine completes the task in just 10 minutes.
Currently, Mumbai Division has two such vacuum cleaner sets, developed and manufactured in-house. There are plans to procure an additional 116 sets, with each set estimated to cost Rs. 25,000 plus GST.
