India’s Vision of Industrial Excellence
India is poised to undergo a major transformation. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved 12 new industrial smart cities. This approval is part of the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP).
With a substantial investment of Rs. 28,602 crore, these projects aim to reshape the industrial landscape of the nation, boosting economic growth and global competitiveness.

The newly approved industrial cities will span across 10 states, strategically situated along six major industrial corridors. These cities will be located in Khurpia (Uttarakhand). Rajpura-Patiala (Punjab). Dighi (Maharashtra). Palakkad (Kerala). Agra and Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh). Gaya (Bihar). Zaheerabad (Telangana). Orvakal and Kopparthy (Andhra Pradesh). Advanced Infrastructure and Smart City Features
These industrial smart cities will be developed as greenfield projects, built to global standards with advanced infrastructure.
The cities will be designed with ‘plug-n-play’ and ‘walk-to-work’ concepts, ensuring efficient and sustainable operations. The projects are aligned with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan. They will feature multi-modal connectivity infrastructure. This will facilitate the seamless movement of people, goods, and services.
Fostering Economic Growth and Employment
The NICDP is expected to play a crucial role. It will help achieve the government’s target of $2 trillion in exports by 2030. These projects will foster a vibrant industrial ecosystem. They are set to generate significant employment opportunities. An estimated 1 million direct jobs and up to 3 million indirect jobs will be created.
This development will not only boost the economy but also uplift the socio-economic conditions of the regions involved.
Sustainable Development and Global Competitiveness
A key focus of the NICDP is sustainability. The projects will incorporate ICT-enabled utilities and green technologies to minimize environmental impact, setting new standards for industrial development.
These projects provide ready-to-allot land for investors. They aim to position India as a strong player in Global Value Chains (GVC). They contribute to the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’—a developed and self-reliant India.
The approval of these 12 new industrial nodes marks a significant step forward. This is crucial in India’s journey to becoming a global manufacturing powerhouse. These projects have a strategic focus on integrated development, sustainable infrastructure, and seamless connectivity. They will redefine India’s industrial landscape. They will drive the nation’s economic growth for years to come.
