Record-Breaking Growth in 2023-24
Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (KIAB/BLR Airport) has once again secured its position as the top airport in India for exporting perishables. In the fiscal year 2023-24, BLR Airport recorded an impressive perishable cargo tonnage of 63,188 metric tons (MT), showcasing an 18% growth compared to the previous year.
This significant achievement underscores the airport’s vital role in India’s perishable exports, handling 28% of the nation’s total perishable cargo.
Leading in Poultry and Flower Exports
BLR Airport excels in exporting various perishable goods, including poultry products, fresh vegetables, fruits, and flowers. In FY 2023-24, the airport shipped 47,041 metric tons of poultry products and 2,050 metric tons of flowers.
These figures highlight BLR Airport’s dominance in the export of these categories, reinforcing its importance in the perishable goods market.

Satyaki Raghunath, Chief Operating Officer at Bangalore International Airport Limited, expressed pride in the airport’s consistent growth. “We are immensely proud of our consistent and continued growth and leadership in perishable exports in FY 2023-24.
This milestone reflects our commitment to excellence in an unbroken cold chain and the trust placed in us by our partners and customers,” Raghunath said. He also emphasized the airport’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure and services to meet the growing demand for perishable goods.
Enhancing Global Connectivity
BLR Airport plays a crucial role in connecting Indian producers with international markets. Its extensive network facilitates the transportation of perishable goods to over 100 global destinations, including Oman, Singapore, Qatar, UAE, Maldives, UK, and Kuwait.
This connectivity boosts the export capacity of southern India, ensuring fresh produce reaches international buyers efficiently.
State-of-the-Art Perishable Handling Facility
BLR Airport is home to WFS BLR Coolport, India’s first integrated on-airport Perishable Handling Centre. This facility, with a terminal capacity of 40,000 metric tons, offers comprehensive services for perishable cold chain cargo, including regulatory services like plant and animal quarantine inspections, a drug controller lab, and Indian Customs.
By continually improving its infrastructure and services, BLR Airport remains a key player in global trade, driving economic growth and fostering international trade relationships.
