BHP, JSW Steel, and Carbon Clean have signed an agreement to explore ways to reduce carbon emissions in steel production. The project will focus on testing Carbon Clean’s CycloneCC technology. This technology captures up to 100,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year. This initiative aims to support India’s growing steel industry in its efforts to decarbonise and meet climate goals.

India, the world’s second-largest steel producer, is expected to see its production double by 2030, making carbon reduction crucial. The partnership will explore the feasibility of installing the technology at JSW Steel’s plant in Karnataka, India. If successful, the captured CO2 be liquefied and sold locally. This process become a potential financial opportunity. It also serves as a climate solution.

This collaboration is an important step in developing more sustainable practices for steel production. It helps the industry reduce its carbon footprint. It also moves closer to achieving net-zero emissions in the future.
